This summer I travelled to the USA for the first time. Among other things, we booked 1 week in New York. We flew from Zurich directly to JFK with Swiss.
Full of anticipation, we immersed ourselves in the vibrant and fascinating ‘Big Apple’. Our hotel was right on Times Square.
Our expectations of the city were high, as we were familiar with so many places and locations from pop culture. There really is something going on around the clock in Times Square, you are absolutely at the centre of the world here!
On the first day, we enjoyed the view from Rockefeller Center, visited the bustling Grand Central Station and looked at the Flatiron Building. We booked a boat tour for the next day, which took us around Manhattan by water. A stopover at the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge was of course a must. Back on land, the next destination was already known: From Hudson Yards, we took a leisurely stroll along the Highline to Chelsea Market.
Later in the week, we visited Ground Zero - which was very emotional - took the lift to the highest building on the American continent (One World Trade Center) and attended the sensational Lion King Musical on Broadway.
All in all, this trip really was an incredible experience, which I can personally recommend to anyone. It definitely exceeded my expectations!
Hotel recommendation:
We had booked the Mariott Marquis. The room had a direct view of Times Square.
It is a very large 4-star hotel in a prime location, ultra-modern, beautifully equipped and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
